COVID Testing Q & A

What is COVID testing?

COVID testing is a diagnostic procedure in which your provider screens you for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. HippoMed Wellness Clinics offers viral COVID testing to find out if you have the virus, and antibody testing to determine if you’ve had COVID-19 in the past and may be immune to it.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

The following signs and symptoms might indicate you have COVID-19:

  • Cough
  • Fever or chills
  • Shortness of breath
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Headaches
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

If you suspect you have COVID-19, see Dr. Jenks at HippoMed Wellness Clinics for COVID testing as soon as possible.

What should I expect during COVID testing?

When you arrive at HippoMed Wellness Clinics for COVID testing, which is available via drive-up with an appointment, you can expect the following without long wait times:

Viral test

During viral COVID testing or PCR testing, your provider inserts a Q-tip-like swab inside each of your nostrils to obtain a tissue sample. The procedure is fast, taking just a few seconds. You might receive the results in as little as 15 minutes. PCR testing is free except for a small administrative/collection fee.

Antibody test

Antibody testing for COVID-19 lets you know if you’ve had a past COVID infection or if you’re potentially immune to the illness. Antibody tests are blood tests, which means your provider uses a skin prick with a very fine needle to administer the test.

You might be a good candidate for a COVID antibody test 1-3 weeks after infection, as it takes this long for your body to develop COVID-19 antibodies. Rapid serology/antibody tests cost $100, and you receive the results in as little as 15 minutes.

What happens if I have COVID-19?

If you receive a COVID-19 diagnosis, treatment is available from HippoMed Wellness Clinics. Dr. Jenks might recommend you take certain medications or use an inhaler for symptom relief, and encourage you to get plenty of rest and fluids. Quarantine yourself at home for 14 days to prevent spreading COVID-19 to other people.

If you have severe COVID symptoms or experience difficulty breathing, Dr. Jenks might recommend hospital admission.

If you’re at risk of or suspect you have COVID-19, you can trust HippoMed Wellness Clinics with exceptional care. Schedule COVID testing by phone or online today.
