What should I expect during a men’s health exam?

When you arrive at a men’s health appointment, welcoming staff members greet you. They check your weight, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs. Dr. Jenks asks questions about your lifestyle, medications, past diagnoses or surgeries, and family history of disease.

He completes a comprehensive physical examination to evaluate your overall health and screen for signs of an injury, illness, or disease. He checks your eyes, ears, throat, breathing, heartbeat, reflexes, and more. Dr. Jenks might recommend a prostate exam, which usually includes a digital rectal exam and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test.

Based on your health history, symptoms, and risk factors, Dr. Jenks may suggest you undergo specific diagnostic tests. Examples include blood tests, urine or stool tests, electrocardiogram (EKG), allergy or asthma testing, X-rays, or other imaging procedures.

Will I require treatment?

If you’re in good health, you likely won’t require treatment unless it’s for preventive medicine purposes. Dr. Jenks might recommend:

Lifestyle changes

Making certain lifestyle changes can reduce your risk of developing diseases or help you better manage a chronic disease. Examples include weight loss, taking dietary supplements, making diet or exercise changes, not smoking or drinking alcohol excessively, and stress reduction.

Hormone replacement therapy

If you struggle with ED, loss of lean muscle, fatigue, or hair loss, Dr. Jenks might recommend you undergo hormone replacement therapy to increase testosterone levels and improve your quality of life.

If you have an illness or disease, Dr. Jenks might recommend you take certain medications to relieve symptoms and reduce your risk of complications.

Specialist referrals

If you have a complex men’s health problem requiring a specialist’s care, Dr. Jenks can refer out to a highly-trained specialist near you.
