Primary Care & Wellness Clinic located in Carrollton, TX

Waxing is an effective treatment for removing unwanted hair from almost any area of the body. Board-certified primary care physician Matthew Roberson, MD, at HippoMed Wellness Clinics, offers waxing at offices in Dallas, Texas, and Monroe, Louisiana. Unlike shaving, waxing removes hair at the root for longer-lasting results. Call the office nearest you or request a waxing appointment online today.

What is waxing?

Waxing is a hair removal treatment. The sticky wax removes the entire hair shaft, providing longer results than shaving, which only removes the hair from the surface of the skin. After waxing, it can take up to three weeks for the hair to grow back.

There are two types of waxing: warm and cold waxing.

Warm waxing

Warm waxing involves heating wax until it melts and then applying it to the skin. Your provider then places a strip of cloth or paper over the wax and waits for it to cool. Then, they quickly pull the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth, removing the wax and hair.

Cold waxing

Cold waxing uses wax or pre-applied wax strips that don’t require heating. The hair removal process with cold waxing is the same as warm waxing.

Cold waxing is gentler on the pores than warm waxing, making it a suitable option for people with sensitive skin. But warm waxing is more effective at removing unwanted hair than cold waxing.

How do I prepare for waxing?

To get the best results with the least amount of pain, it’s important to prepare properly for waxing. HippoMed Wellness Clinics recommends letting the unwanted hair grow in until it reaches one-fourth to three-fourths of an inch. If your hair is too long, you can trim it.

The primary care and wellness clinic also suggests avoiding skin care products that contain retinoids up to five days before waxing to reduce the risk of complications.

To minimize discomfort, you can take an over-the-counter (OTC) pain medication or use cold packs 30 minutes prior to your waxing appointment.

What happens during waxing?

The details of your waxing at HippoMed Wellness Clinics depend on the location of your waxing. HippoMed Wellness Clinics uses wax to remove unwanted hair from the:

  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Buttocks
  • Legs
  • Bikini area
  • Eyebrows

First, they clean the area, apply the wax and the strip, let it set, and then remove it. Waxing is quick and requires no downtime.

What can I expect after waxing?

You may have some redness following your waxing at HippoMed Wellness Clinics. Use cold packs to reduce discomfort. HippoMed Wellness Clinics recommends avoiding hot baths or showers, wearing loose clothing, and using a gentle moisturizer to prevent pores from clogging.

Regular waxing may help thin the hair in the treatment area, prolonging the results.
