What should I expect during a women’s health exam?

The friendly staff greets you when you arrive for a women’s health appointment at HippoMed Wellness Clinics. Providers check your weight, blood pressure, pulse, and other vital signs. Dr. Jenks reviews your medical history and asks questions about medications, symptoms you might have, and your lifestyle.

Dr. Jenks completes a physical examination to check for signs of illness or disease. He evaluates your eyes, throat, breathing, heartbeat, abdomen, and reflexes.

During a gynecological exam, Dr. Jenks inserts a speculum into your vagina to evaluate your cervix. Taking a sample of cervical cells allows a lab to screen the cells for signs of cervical cancer.

Dr. Jenks might complete a breast exam or recommend you undergo a mammogram to screen for breast cancer. Depending on your health history, symptoms, and risk factors, he may suggest you complete blood tests, urine tests, a tissue biopsy, ultrasound, or other imaging procedures.

How often should I schedule women’s wellness exams?

Unless you have a chronic condition requiring more frequent women’s health checkups, schedule a wellness exam every year. Book an appointment at HippoMed Wellness Clinics if you experience new or unusual symptoms, or have concerns about your health.

If you’re due for an annual women’s health examination, call HippoMed Wellness Clinics or book an appointment online today.
